California Enacts AB 2392 on Generative AI Procurement Standards for Public Colleges

Assembly Bill 2392 (Fong) was approved by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State on September 30, 2026 as Chapter 855, Statutes of 2026, adding Education Code Article 14 commencing with Section 66098. The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office and the California State University must, and the University of California is requested to, convene an intersegmental working group that presents recommendations for generative AI system procurement standards and training by January 1, 2028. Until standards are adopted, each segment must report to the Legislature within 60 days after executing a systemwide generative AI contract, describing how the system was evaluated and selected.
