Colorado Becomes First U.S. State With Comprehensive AI Act

Governor Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 24-205 into law on May 17, 2024, making Colorado the first U.S. state to enact a comprehensive AI law regulating both developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems. The law was originally enacted with February 1, 2026 implementation language, but SB25B-004 later extended the effective date of the SB 24-205 requirements to June 30, 2026.
